The traditional design handoff document is officially dead. In modern multidisciplinary teams, design files and production codebases must share a single, programmatic source of truth driven by semantic design tokens.

1. Tiered Token Architectures

A scalable design system separates tokens into three strict tiers: Global Tokens (raw hex colors, base font-sizes), Semantic Tokens (color-background-elevated, border-subtle), and Component Tokens (button-primary-padding). This separation enables multi-brand skinning and flawless dark mode switching without manual component alterations.

2. Continuous Delivery for Design Decisions

By connecting Figma REST APIs or Style Dictionary through GitHub Actions, a color tweak approved by design automatically opens a pull request with generated JSON tokens, Tailwind theme extensions, and CSS variable updates, closing the loop in minutes.
